I dig dead people!!

Welcome to my latest venture...blogging about genealogy!

I love genealogy, family history, researching and anything related to it.  It is my favorite "hobby" of all time.  I have been doing genealogy since 2005 thanks to the encouragement of a great friend.  I attended her class on researching family history and jumped in with both feet.  The rest is history!
I have the opportunity to trace my family lines along the East Coast, Midwest, Sweden and parts of Europe.  I have been lucky enough to travel to the Midwest and back East for family research thanks to my fantastic hubby who gave me the chance to travel.  I have connected with and been helped by many people and do my best to pay it forward.  I've seen amazing cemeteries and loved the history that they represent.  I love bringing the people in my family lines to life by finding out who they were, where they lived, what they did, who and what they have loved and lost and how they continued to move forward.  I dig dead people!
Swedish records are hands down my absolute favorite to research!  I finally decided to make the "jump across the pond" into Sweden with the names and birth dates of my great grandparents and a rough idea of where they lived. Wow!  Once I found them in names and records started flowing.  Anyone who has Swedish family lines - give it a try.  Their records are AMAZING!  The attention that the Parish Priests gave to keeping the records make finding and tracking your ancestors quite simple...once you find them!
Have you checked out the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah?  Candy shop central for anyone who is interested in genealogy and family history.  Five floors of records just waiting for someone to look through.  Drawers of films.  Books and CDs.  Microfilms and microfiche just waiting to be perused.  Friendly volunteers who are fluent in foreign languages.  People helping each other and sharing experiences and stories.  Go there.  It's worth it!  Can't make a trip out of state?  Have you checked to see if you have a family history center near you?  They are smaller scale candy shops waiting for you.  Great opportunities to get started await.  Subscriptions to websites are available for you to test drive.  Do it today!

Thanks for joining me on this venture.  Hope you will come back and join me as I try to share what I have learned with you.  Happy hunting!
